COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOTHERAPYAvailable in Bovey Tracey and Exeter Counselling and Psychotherapy offers an opportunity to talk through distressing or difficult times with an experienced non-judging person to help you to reflect on the situation you are in more clearly. It is a process of sense-making which helps you deal with conflicting ideas or feelings in yourself, with others, or even with the outside world. Troublesome conflicts are often at least partly sub-conscious and appear in different forms: - Physical symptoms such as anxiety, body tension, panic attacks or recurrent ill health
- Emotional symptoms such as depression, fear, jealousy, distress or anger
- Behavioural symptoms such as avoiding places or people, obsessional or repetitive actions, aggression
Most often the problem begins to disappear once we have a fuller awareness of our symptoms. This is because as we understand and accept the impact on us we can also begin to take charge of our lives. Sometimes deeper therapy may be necessary with persistent symptoms. Counselling tends to be shorter term work with a specific focus that usually deals with a current crisis. Psychotherapy tends to be longer term work which may address a range of issues or patterns of behaviour that span a longer period of your life, or need greater understanding to process. Generally speaking, the two are not clearly defined and the main difference with your therapist is that psychotherapists have longer and usually more in depth training and will have had substantial therapy themselves.
(In my case, my counselling diploma took three years part time and I did an additional two years to gain psychotherapy status.).
WHAT NEXT? If you are interested, then please call me so we can have a brief chat. If you feel okay with the sound of me on the phone we can then make an initial appointment to meet to discuss what you want and ask questions about me, the therapy and so on, so you can make an informed decision about the therapy, me, and if it is right for you at this point in time. You will be spending time and emotional energy in therapy as well as money so I want you to feel safe and confident with this threefold investment in yourself. We will discuss whether a short series of sessions or a more open-ended style may suit your concerns best. My fee for individuals is £45 per 50 minute session, which are usually weekly, £60 per 50 minute session for couples. Occasionally, in exceptional circumstances, a reduction can be negotiated. There may be a waiting list for a reduced rate slot – please contact for more information. |
